Jacob Buman Harlan, IW Accident Death Obituary: The community of Harlan, Iowa, is in mourning following the sudden and tragic death of 19-year-old Jacob Buman, who passed away on Wednesday evening after a fatal motorcycle crash in Shelby County. Jacob’s loss has left his family, friends, and the entire community with an overwhelming sense of grief and disbelief, as they process the heartbreaking reality of his passing.

According to the Iowa State Patrol, the crash occurred at approximately 7:25 p.m. on Shelby County Road M-16, just north of Shelby. Jacob, riding a 2008 Kawasaki motorcycle, was traveling northbound when he struck the rear of a 2010 Apache 715 field sprayer. The sprayer, which was also heading north, had begun making a left turn into a driveway. The collision occurred as the sprayer was in mid-turn, causing Jacob’s motorcycle to veer off the road and into the west ditch. Despite prompt emergency assistance, Jacob succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene.

The driver of the sprayer, Luke Applegate, 37, of Shelby, was not injured in the crash.

Jacob was only 19 years old, with so much of his life still ahead of him. His sudden passing has left a painful hole in the lives of his loved ones, who now hold on to the memories of a young man with so much promise. His absence will be deeply felt in the Harlan community, where his memory will live on in the hearts of all who knew him.
